Marketing Company Took Me For Ten Grand
So, back in the days of pre internet, pre cell phones, we really didn’t have a lot of options as young inventors. I had three chemical products that I test marketed on my own to reassure myself that the claims I was about to make would withstand any testing they’d be subjected to in the future.
My first task was to discover how to get the attention of corporations that would be interested in my amazing product line. I knew the search had to begin at my local library, so with pen and notepad in hand I began the process. Within a short time I discovered what back then seemed like the answers to all my problems, a company that promised to help me “Market My Product To Industry”, and they even had a 800 number so I wouldn’t have to pay for the call, could it get any better?.
I went home and dialed the number with such excitement, I was somewhat nervous, what if they said they weren’t interested or laughed at my questions? My call was answered and I began by rambling on about who I was, what I had I’m sure without even breathing. The lady on the other end sounded so interested in my product line and began to discuss the possibilities of what they could do with such an amazing invention. She then informed me that there was a fee for their services but it would seem so small in comparison to what I’d be making with my invention. We discussed the fees and she stated that I should mail her a check for almost 10,000.00 to begin the exciting process of introducing my products to the world. I made it so easy for them, I told her I wanted to fly out to Pittsburgh and deliver the payment and…. demo my products for them so I could see the excitement on their faces in person.
Looking back I was oh so excited, and oh so dumb……….. I’ll get into the excellent con that they pulled on me and how I lost the 10,000.00 in less than 30 days. Stop back for my next blog…..
